Precious is a painting filled with love & gratitude. It was painted from a Cafe au lait Dahlia grown on a British Flower farm by Pipley Flowers, as Autumn gave it's last blast of glorious floral colour.
As with all my paintings, the creative process took me into a deeply immersive state of thought, almost meditative in it's soothing quality. As I started to paint, the title & story of this canvas came immediately & I decided that each individual petal would have painted into it the love & gratitude for all the precious things in life.
The central petals hold family, the love of a Mother for her child, the joy of laughter, nurture & closeness. The appreciation for the older generations, who bring wisdom & knowledge into our lives. As I moved from the centre outwards, all the precious things in life were painted into each petal. A video & written blog of the full story of life's precious things & how focussing on them & having gratitude can bring joy & fulfillment to life, even at the most difficult times with be available in my blog posts from 2nd Nov
Uncannily, as I painted the last strokes to finish the painting, the news announced the UK;s second lockdown, with all the uncertainly that creates. The process of creating this painting left me feeling grounded, solid & filled to the brim all that is good in life. An understanding that even the darkest times can have unexpected good outcomes & that this is a time to care for & help those around us who need support in a quiet & humble way.
