When I moved into a new home in 2021 a friend gave us a Prayer Plant, or a Maranta Fascinator, to give its official name. Aside from its striking red-veined leaves and eye-catching colours, the interesting thing about this Brazilian rainforest originated plant is that it folds up its leaves every evening, hence the prayer name. _x000D_

I've always loved house plants and succulents but over the last few years in particular I feel like they've become much more popular with a younger crowd. And while I often avoid more traditional nature-based still-life subjects, this plant's image fascinated me so much that I decided to paint it twice - the other painting is listed elsewhere. This version features a distinctive diagonal pastel blue and pink tile-effect background and just the one leaf._x000D_

The end result is a work that would brighten up any room in the house. _x000D_
