Original artwork description:

'Portrait of Mrs. Canals' is a master copy with a contemporary twist after Pablo Picasso's portrait (completed 1905) of the companion of his good friend Catalan painter Ricard Canals. Joyce was inspired to paint a contemporary version of this piece after seeing the original at the Museu Picasso in Barcelona.


This work is painted in oil over an acrylic gessoed base which the artist used to create a fresco-like background. On closer look, one can see the faintly textured underpainting which adds a mystique to the work. This painting is ready to hang in a simple wood floater frame in gold and black (framed dimensions of 37.5" x 31.5" x 2.5") This simple frame was selected to enhance the contemporary feel of the work and to protect the painting during exhibitions.
