Original artwork description:
As a change of pace from my entheogenic paintings, I opted to paint a new honor portrait of Frida Kahlo, one of my favorite artists. I based her facial features on several photos and paintings of her, but I also chose to integrate details from a couple of controversial photoshopped images of her by Roberto Prusso and Steven Meisel. The phallic Cala lilies, the grimacing monkey, and the necklace of thorns are symbolic of her challenging relationships with the photographer Nicholas Murray and her husband Diego Rivera.
