Original artwork description:

I began this work in the early 1990’s, after reading about Don Quixote and his wonderful companion Rocinante, as they roam through Spain, in search of adventure. Although Rocinate is described as awkward and untidy, Don Quixote greatly believed that Rocinate had special powers.
Carved from a single piece of Fossilized wood (Bog Oak). I found this buried in a field, spending days digging it out and then began carving. As with most of my works, I would return to it over the years, still not being able to complete, until 2021.
Finally I feel I have achieved my vision of Rocinate. In the back of this work, I have created “ a thousand stars to light the way “ (see images).
Bog oak to me has special qualities. It’s age 10 thousand years plus and it’s natural black color, gives it an energy that I try to reveal when working with this wonderful material .
This work suspends from a chain (supplied), a hanging piece only (in effect, a mobile), gracing any space it resides in.

Materials used:

Fossilized wood , plaster base
