Original artwork description:

This was my first canine portrait commission. I approached the painting in the same way I would a human portrait. I wanted to capture the character of the animals in a headshot rather than a more contrived outdoor setting, for example.
I loved the challenge of capturing all the different colours in their coats. I had met the dogs and made watercolour sketches (and took clippings!) and then worked on the final piece in my studio.
