A unique and one of a kind portrait of the famous and popular Italian artist Amedeo Modigliani.
My homage to this fantastic artist has been painted on a 40 x 50 cm canvas using professional artist grade acrylic paint. Soft pastel lilac and pink tones complete the face, contrasting with bright, contemporary blues and azures in rough impasto for the contours and shadows of the subjects confident and contemplative gaze. A textured background completed with a palette knife adds a contemporary modern tone and complements the expressive quality of the finished piece.
A personal artistic hero of mine, Modigliani and his oeuvre refused to be categorised with any of the artistic movements of his time, instead forging his own path of a highly unique and subjective style, comprising nudes with elongated faces and limbs and his idiosyncratic portraits of his many Parisian based friends and fellow artists of the day.
During his life, Amedeo Modigliani had little success, but after his death he achieved greater popularity and his works of art achieved high prices. He died at age 35 in Paris of tubercular meningitis.
