Original artwork description:

Continuing the theme of wildlife art in 2023, this is a painting taken from a photo that I just needed to add my artistic touch.

Like my (much larger) recent Zebra piece this is on a box-framed panel in acrylic. The finish is matt varnished for longevity and to aid dusting. I like my paintings to be see and not suffer from reflections that framed and glazed pieces have (unless expensive Museum Glass is used).

A new effect (for me) is adding a modest impasto effect to aid the texture of the foreground the monkey is looking through. Added to the black background with a very slight very dark brown effect adds more to the depth of field.

I like painting eyes and these are particularly vivid.

I have designed the box frame so that it can be hung as close to the wall as possible, if it were strung it could lean forward, which is a feature I did not want it to have.

Materials used:

acrylic on panel
