Many coastal walks is the motivation for this painting. That peculiar situation where you may be bathed in sunlight, but the sky is dark with an oncoming heavy shower. Walking the Cornish coast in a UK summer is to be frequently presented with this situation. The single figure conveys a sense 

of seclusion to this small beach.
I apply the acrylic paint in successive washes to achieve a soft structure and then overpaint some areas with a more opaque pigment. I use artists hogs hair brushes to apply and manipulate the paint with large 2" brushes to spread the washes. The work is painted on a Superior Rolled Canvas board as I like the rigidity and fine surface. 


Finished with a coat of Winsor & Newton Satin UV varnish, this not only protects the painting but has a unifying effect.
