Possibly my favourite doorway in the world, the Porta della Carta (the Paper Portal) at the Doge's Palace in Venice. A beautiful balance of intricate late Gothic style with St. Mark at the top and Francesco Foscari kneeling to the winged lion at the centre, all around the thick wooden doors. It's a work of art that sits humbly in a corner between the Palace and the Basilica quickly passed by the hordes of tourists after a quick snap on their phones. Personally, I could (and have) stood for ages, taking in every detail of this magnificent architectural gem.
