Original artwork description:

Point Vicente Lighthouse in Palos Verdes, California is on a beautiful stretch of coastline. It has a dramatic history and gorgeous surrounding panoramic views. I painted a small plein air study to capture the light, and then used it as reference to create this larger studio piece. I accentuated the rough surface of the cliffs with confident brushstrokes and thick layers of oil paint, while employing a delicate technique to capture the soft movement of the clouds high overhead. Subtle reflection in the water builds a richness and depth in the piece.

Materials:
Oil on Oil Primed rough grain natural linen canvas. Linen is not pumiced, for a unique, nubby, non-uniform finish. Solid pine stretcher bars 3/4"D x 2.17"W. Canvas is first stretched and back-stapled, then primed for a drum-tight surface. Oil primed surface is specifically designed to provide beautiful results with oil paints. Painting surface is protected with a coat of Gamvar varnish. The sides are painted white.

The painting is unframed, wired in the back on the stretcher bars, and ready to hang without a frame.

Materials used:

oil paint, stretched linen canvas, varnish
