This is a newly completed piece. I am exploring how to combine Japanese pigments with watercolour seamlessly within one work. I like to use subtle gold accents without any one element overpowering the whole.
Using life drawings, I wanted to create an energetic nude portrait with an underlying meaning that changes depending on the viewer.
This piece has a powerful dark theme of endings and new beginnings symbolized by a liminal space occupied by spirit beings, neither alive or dead, but eternal, engaged in a ritualistic dance whose purpose only becomes clear through the passage of time.
The work is painted on Japanese washi paper, made in Japan and mounted on a wooden panel. It is ready to hang as is, on a wall nail.
