An evocative, surreal landscape rendered in deep ultramarine blue, green and vibrant orange.
A lone plinth stands in a shadowy clearing, a fire burning atop it in the encroaching gloom of dusk. A vivid orange sunset streaks the sky, fading to cerulean as the light disappears. This painting was inspired by the feeling of mystery evoked by the in-between time that divides night and day, and the soft light of dusk in summer, when smoke and dust colour the air in mauve and ultramarine.
For me, this painting speaks of childhood adventures, and of the thrill and mystery of things ancient and unknowable.
