This picture was painted under the influence of the Pre-Raphaelites and knightly novels. It depicts a young knight immersed in deep thought. Inside him, a whole struggle unfolds with himself and his feelings. His noble nature is not inclined to do evil to anyone, but still he is just a person who is not alien to human passions. His pride was hurt, a close friend betrayed him - and now he is on a fine line: to take revenge and lose himself forever - or to forgive and try to live on?
