During the last Ice Age, lumps of ice grew underground, raising hillocks above. In summers above ground, the surface would thaw and hillock tops would gradually wash away. As the Ice Age receded, supporting lumps of underground ice melted, causing the hillocks above to collapse. The remnants are scoured dips, called pingos. They often fill with rainwater and are usually surrounded by trees. A ten minute walk from home brings me to one such pingo, unkempt, dark and timeless.
This is an original relief print pulled from an engraving cut in rubber. The published edition is 4 prints only. All materials used are of high quality and should present no keeping difficulty, Please feel free to contact me to put a question or to make a remark.
