Pillow boardwalk right on the sea. The edge is soft under the feet, like sand but paved with sleep. The sea lightly touches civilization, calligraphic of the concrete wharf boat symbols. Gulls are silent. Car traffic has disappeared somewhere. You can only hear people talking in front of the telephone booth and the sounds of the telephone dial, the last archaic reminder of the past.
