This photo is part of the set I shot for the amazing composer and musician Hania Rani. We went all the way to Bieszczady - one of the wildest corners of Poland - for a couple of days, a place of great significance to her. We were working on a music video and photos for her piano book. She wanted us to capture the locations that inspired her first album "Esja'.
At the end of our last day there, Hania wanted to show me an abandoned quarry. After so much time spent together, she felt relaxed and almost forgot I was taking pictures of her. She was walking slowly among the rocks and puddles. We didn’t talk much. The great acoustics of this place seemed to magnify every whisper; silence felt more appropriate.
She turned away from me, crossed her hands behind her back and stepped forward, facing a small hill. I noticed that her feet started gently tapping the rocks. I realized that she was most likely hearing music in her mind, slowly taking over her thoughts.
I decided to focus on her legs and hands, and try to capture all these small private gestures. Her stained skirt became the punctum of this sublime, romantic moment.
