"Pheasant Life" Original Mixed Media Painting on Arches watercolour paper.
I am a big outdoor enthusiast, recreationist and advocate and that's what inspires most my paintings. When I was young, I just kind of saturated myself with it as the years went on. Growing up in the countryside, I remember filling my notebooks with anything nature related and even to this day, I love collecting natural objects when i'm out and about.
This style of painting was inspired by my acrylic painting "Foxton". I wanted to create series of side profile paintings of British wildlife. I created these paintings to show a window into the natural world where the viewer plays no active role. My three paintings; Foxton, Rooster life and Pheasant life give the impression and illusion of detail without actually painting too many details. The out of focus background with the animal in focus gives you the animal behaviour and potential energy caught in time before life resumes.
My ultimate goal of using wildlife to paint/sketch is to convey the importance of conserving wildlife and the habitat it needs to survive. I believe that as a visual artist, I have a real opportunity to make a difference in the world.
