Original artwork description:

'Perceptions' is a very colorful and dynamic artwork. The main inspirations for it were the action paintings by the American painter Jackson Pollock.

I paint flat almost all the time, just like Pollock, but sometimes I angle the canvas to let gravity do work on the paint in a controlled way. There is no attempt to copy any of Pollock's works, and some of the techniques are more similar to the German artist Gerhard Richter. For example at the start, after applying a a base coat I added red paint in large lumps, then moved it around with long straight edges. White paint was then dripped onto the canvas in lots of places and the canvas was tilted from flat to about 45 degrees so that the paint dripped. This produced some lovely pinks that can be seen in the painting.

Other paint colors were added by dripping and flicking. At the end more white paint was added by dropping it on at chosen locations. Although 'Perceptions' looks quite random there was a lot of thought going into it.

Materials used:

Acrylic paint applied with brushes, long straight edges, or by dripping and flicking.
