There's probably a period of about two weeks when, every autumn, the colours reach a peak intensity that is unrivalled compared to any other season. That two-week period is all the more intense because we know that winter is just around the corner. These beech trees were flame red and magnificent. The title is from a John Clare poem: Come, pensive Autumn, with thy clouds and storms.
