This is an original large scale, hand-carved linocut showing a local landmark in my home city called Penshaw Monument. The work came about when I was asked to make an artwork of the monument, which has been depicted so many times by artists from the North-East region. But always in a traditional, plain old way, so I thought I would make mine stand out from the crowd. So here we see an explosion of pop culture all around Penshaw hill. Star Wars tie-fighters attack the monument from above, Super Mario rides a cow, the Hulk bursts forward, Shawn Michaels, the WWF star 'superkicks' a dolphin and a silhouetted figure rolls an egg down the hill (the egg-rolling contest being a popular tradition on the hill). All of this while a boy and a girl posing as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers in the foreground look out at the viewer!
The work was printed using a garden roller as it was too big to fit under my press, so because of the nature of the method used; the ink coverage is not even, but this does help emphasise the unique quality of this piece.
This is a limited edition linocut, printed on 315gsm Heritage Bookwhite printmaking paper.
Your print will come wrapped in protective tissue paper to reach you in the best condition.
If you have any questions relating to the work before purchase please don't hesitate to ask me.
