My hometown, Pampanga (Philippines) is famous for its “Penitensya” on Holy Week. “Penitensya” (Penance) is a ritual performed by some people who want to repent for their sins, do it as an act of sacrifice for the welfare of their families or as an act of appreciation for the sacrifice of Christ. This is a tradition practiced in our country for hundred of years. Some go as far as being crucified on the cross as depicted on this piece. This ritual has become a huge event attracting thousands of local and international tourists.
I integrated charcoal with graphite on the nail part of this piece.
