Original expressive watercolour on textured watercolour paper bockingford 300 gsm 140lb.
I used a wet on wet technique with Holbein watercolours. I wet the paper all over and applied the sky colour washes. I tipped the paper to let the pigments feather down from the sky then lay flat. I find this process very satisfying and meditative.
Then with my Chinese brush I draw with the paint the Christmas tree while the paper is wet. I paint a hill line when the washes have dried using a filbert brush made of hogs hair. I leave areas of light with sweeping brushstrokes.
