The patchwork series began in response to many of my other works that are more pattern-based. I wanted to break out of the rhythms of pattern and pursue a more fluid architecture within the painting. The initial coats of paint are thick impasto, creating random indentations and marks that lay the groundwork for the loose patchwork of colour that covers the entire surface and edges.
