My drawings focus on people and often fish and underwater life. The narrative that continues through all my work stems from beliefs and folklore surrounding afterlife and my attempt to align these with conflicting theories of evolution.
The narrative of this print comes from an imagined afterlife where we return to a fish form. In this self portrait of myself in both human and fish form I am reflecting on this imagined afterlife and on my own mortality, protectively cradling my fish self yet keeping it from the water.
This reduction linocut is comprised of 8 layers from three blocks with the organic marks achieve through a caustic etch of the block.
There are metallic gold, silver and copper layers which catch the light as you move past the print.
Traditional grey lino, caustic soda etch, oil based printmaking inks, etching press, printmaking paper
