“Park Walk 1” is an acrylic painting 51 x 51 cms on primed canvas stretched over a wooden frame with steel corner braces. “Park Walk 1” is part of a series of four paintings inspired by a familiar location and in keeping with similar paintings made at this time, focuses on memory and imagination. The location is Hesketh Park, Southport, U.K. I walk in this park every day.
The compositional arrangement makes reference to the park landscape, the lake, the foliage and the flowers. Unlike previous ‘park’ paintings, the ‘park walk’ paintings have been preceded by drawings made on location. These drawings underpin the paintings which are now, perhaps, more literal in composition. This painting, like all of the previous ‘park’ paintings, is concerned with the related dynamics of areas of colour separated by distinct divisions of deep shadow. The intense light of July and early August breaking through the wooded areas of the park, together with the reflection of the landscape on the lake have inspired the paintings. There are clear reference points to Fauvism, (Henri Matisse, Maurice de Vlaminck, André Derain and Raoul Dufy) abstract expressionism, and the semi-abstraction of Howard Hodgkin, Barbara Rae and Gillian Ayres.
The painting is shipped in a robust custom made cardboard crate (same as those used to transport large screens). The painting is bubble wrapped to protect the canvas. Further wrapping is made with corrugated card. A wooden frame is placed inside the cardboard crate to preserve the structural strength of the packaging. Each painting is insured to its sale value. Shipping costs within the U.K. take into consideration weight and insurance. U.K. shipping costs for this artwork are £65
