This painting was inspired by Herman's Garage, an old gas station in a tiny town called Thoreau, just off Interstate 40 in New Mexico. (They pronounce it Tha ROO) because you just want to drive right through it. Visiting the gas station is like traveling back in time. And, yes, the gas pumps do lean....
I just love to paint pictures of rusty and dented stuff...This painting was four months in the making. I was commissioned to paint this but my patron's circumstances changed dramatically just before the painting was completed. The price is the same as the one agreed to by my patron.
