This painting together with its sister painting ‘Outside the lines 1’ alludes to the importance of not always sticking to the rules, but to think creatively or out of normal boundaries, not conforming to stereotypical thought processes. In this painting I strive for a balance between well-defined shapes and shapes with coloring outside the lines. The painting has subtle color changes, transparencies, and is heavily layered. Lines travel through the shapes, appear and disappear. The pinks, purples, reds and oranges contrast nicely with the subtle greys.
