Original artwork description:

Crossing from Germany into Belgium on a snowy day in January, I was inspired to paint this rural scene of farm outbuildings and snow-covered fields. The bright sunshine made the scene look cheerful with the colourful red roof and green adjoining annex against the crisp white snow. The old fence posts, somewhat weather-gnarled, emphasize that the climate is harsh here though. Together with the dilapidated buildings, there is the suggestion of passing modernization by, of unchangedness, of constancy and of resilience. That, along with the wide open landscape here, is what I love about this region known as the Eifel.

Small winter landscape, "Outbuildings in the snow" was painted on 600g rough Hahnemühle handmade watercolour paper using Windsor and Newton paints. This small painting is one of two paintings depicting two scenes painted from the same spot between the villages of Winterspelt in Germany and St Vith in Belgium (See also "Small winter landscape, "Farm in the snow"). This painting can be purchased individually or together with the "partner" painting for hanging together. The piece comes with its own warm white mount to fit a frame size of 30cm b x 20cm h and is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist.
