Original artwork description:

I came across colour photographs from Warsaw ghetto. I was astounded by the normality in the expression of the woman I chose to paint. She appears to be chatting to a friend whilst holding onto the barb wire. It made me think about how we as human beings have this curious ability to adjust and normalise even the most unthinkable situations… I found beauty in this woman’s face which moved me. I felt compassion and connection to her image. I felt I wanted to celebrate her by painting her.
