Oscar Piastri had an amazing debut season for the McLaren F1 team in 2023. The Australian scored a number of podiums and had several other strong performances. It was the Qatar Grand Prix weekend, however, where he really impressed.
Piastri took pole position in the Saturday Sprint race shootout and followed it up that night with an exciting victory in the Sprint race itself. On the Sunday, he went on to secure another podium to cap a hugely impressive weekend. This was McLaren‘s first victory since Italian Grand Prix in 2021.
My piece depicts Piastri on his way to scoring his first pole position, as the sun sets over the Arabian gulf. The contrast of the colourful run-off curbs, Piastris’s papaya orange McLaren, and the setting sun creates a cosy dynamic colour scheme to my piece.
This is one for both McLaren and OP81 fans out there.
