Oscar Piastri had a memorable debut home Grand Prix in 2023, scoring his first world championship points in only his third Formula One race. It was a great story for the young Australian, driving for the famous McLaren team. Most F1 fans had been longing for McLaren to return to winning ways but it’s new car had proved disappointing in the early rounds of the season. Nevertheless ex-Formula 2 champion Piastri placed the car in the top 10 on the grid in Saudi Arabia and then claimed his first top 10 result a few weeks later in Melbourne. Although slightly fortuitous after some late red flag drama, the Australian’s eighth place will surely be the first of many points in his career.
This piece shows Piastri in the bright setting sun, as he races past some of the iconic green and yellow curbing on the Albert Park street circuit.
