Original artwork description:

Sharks are an often demonised creature, years of films like Jaws (great film) and Deep Blue Sea (less so) have redoubled a primal fear of the murky depths of the oceans and the animals within it.

Unfortunately due to this bad reputation, the world can be indifferent to the plight of these large fish and ignorant of what losing them could mean. Without apex predators in the oceans to prune the booming population of other sea-life, the ecosystem becomes unbalanced and unhealthy. As the seas are the lungs of the planet, the loss of sharks could leave us blue in the face!

That's why industrial fishing practices that end in a large number of sharks killed as 'by-catch' and the shark finning market must be curtailed before it's too late.

These painted origami sharks are made up of world currency as the blame is shared, as can be the solution.

Materials used:

Watercolour and paper
