Large monochrome etching inspired by structure of cells by contemporary Welsh artist Mark Lloyd Williams. Edition of 50, each signed and numbered in pencil, in the margin.
Printed in black ink on very heavy 300 gsm Hahnemuhle velvet surface paper.
This is a hand-made print created using the centuries-old technique of etching whereby the surface of a smooth metal plate has the design "burned" into it using acid. This is repeated many times to get the required lines and tone levels. The plate is then inked and run through an etching press in contact with a sheet of damp paper, the etching press is capable of exerting thousands of pounds of pressure, and "stamps" the plate into the paper, transferring the ink onto the damp surface. Prints made in this way have the characteristic shape of the printing plate embossed into the paper. Supplied rolled in a tube.
