This painting is more about shape and colour arranged in space. Although it started as a study of an orchid I had in my studio, it gradually became a composition I was very happy with and the colour for the background evolved from the colours I had on my palette.
The blue of the background creates a dreamy other worldly feel to the work.
I draw with charcoal and paint with acrylic but often use charcoal on top of the paint to define edges or areas I want to emphasise.
