Original artwork description:

Recently I have made a return to painting with oil on canvas after many years of working with mixed media and collage. Some works are abstracts using simple geometric shapes of circles, triangles and lines as in 'Orbit 4', which is part of a series of large 100x100cm minimal works. The three different shades of blue in the work from very dark to pale are balanced against the delicate thin purple circle and together they give the painting a calm and contemplative feel. The canvas is painted around the edges and ready to hang if preferred. 100x100x4cm

I am interested in the concept of time and in the life of the mind and of feeling as Robert Hughes wrote when writing about Richard Diebenkorn's Ocean Park series of paintings:
‘one heard neither the chant of surging millions, nor even the chorus of a movement, but one measured voice, quietly and tersely explaining why this light, this colour, this intrusion of a 30 degree angle into a glazed and modulated field might be valuable in the life of the mind and of feeling.

Materials used:

Oil paint on canvas
