This painting is part of a series called "Behind the Scenes". In this new series, I explore pretense. What could be stranger than evoking nature with highly polluting plastic elements? I paint close-ups of the fake plant decorations that multiply on the fronts of shops, restaurants and cafes in our cities; I paint plastic and ceramic flowers from cemeteries. Sometimes a real flower gets mixed in with their plastic sisters. But on the canvas of painting, we no longer know what is true, what is false, what is festive, what is tragic. In the background, we can guess the places which inspired the painting and which could allow identification… Only the artist knows the truth, and the buyer of the painting, if he wishes…
