Original artwork description:

This painting depicts how women gather together to sell in open markets. What proceeds this scene is the morning rise of these industrious women to get into the market early enough to prepare for wholesale buyers and consumers. This begins as early as 4 a.m where women who do not have stalls in the market all go to a commonplace in the market where their commodities are kept so they can take it to their selling spots. They clean the market and arrange their products and get them ready for their early morning buyers, who also come to buy in order to sell at other small markets in their own communities. The hustle and bustle begin immediately when all things are set and ready to serve customers which is normally around 5 a.m. This is done amidst singing, clapping, and hearty conversations all in an effort to catch the attention of buyers trooping into the market.
