I spend too much time in hospital waiting areas, clinic waiting rooms etc. While I wait I sketch… I sketch the people around me who are bored and just waiting, And it has gotten so easy nowadays as most folk are absorbed in their devices and never even notice the sketch artist in their midst!
Small projects in A4 size are great to work out ideas, and just as a way of staying agile with colour and paper. The lines are fluid, the colours simple, spontaneous and expressive. The challenge is to put movement into the painting with colour and ‘splash’. The simpler result can be quite refreshing. The close up picture is give a better sense of the paint, paper and the brush stroke. Then there’s the work in progress, and the sketch which served as the inspiration for this work. Sketch is now sold. There’s also a studio shot where you can see how I’m working on a few projects at the same time.
