When I walk in the forest and see two trees close together, I cannot help but see in them a bond, a relationship, a love. They are similar, often born together, they share the same earth and the same sky. And when I return to the same places years later, I sometimes find with sadness that one of the two trees has fallen and no longer exists.
In this work I wanted to describe, through nature, the pain of losing a loved one.
One of the two trees in the foreground collapses to the ground against a sunset sky. The other trees, motionless, look on in silence.
The drama of the scene is rendered in bright colours and rapid, typically Expressionist brushstrokes.
Painted in a studio in August 2023, this painting is a reworking of several studies done en plein air.
The work is painted in oil on rough paper, then applied on 100% linen canvas mounted on a fixed fir frame made to measure by the artist.
The signature is in the lower right corner.
The painting is protected by a layer of satin acrylic varnish.
The work comes with a thin wooden frame to protect the edges. It is ready to hang.
The work is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by the artist.
“One of us will have to fall” is the literal translation of the original Italian title “Uno di noi due dovrà cadere”.
