Glass plays a prominent part in most of my paintings and I really wanted to create a piece reminiscent of the Dutch painters, where dark backgrounds and bright foregrounds are used to create dramatic contrasts.

I am always in awe of the beautiful crisp drapes painted by the masters and I wanted to show how the colours throughout the composition, for example the reds and greens are highlighted in the material.

A beautiful warms but contemporary frame has been used to bring out the rich colours in the painting.

Materials used:

Stretched canvas, primed with gesso. Oil paints used and varnished framed canvas
