Ondine is at the heart of an Alsatian legend. When he was born, the fairies leaned over his cradle, offering him many qualities. One day, she is taken by a young lord with whom she falls madly in love, to the point of forgetting her sick mother. Her fairy godmother punishes her by forcing her to love the lord in question, regardless of his behavior. Tired of his companion, the latter knowingly accuses her of infidelity and, to prove her wrong, asks her to fill a vase at the Nideck spring. After three days of walking with this enormous container, Ondine, exhausted, fell into the water. Her godmother barely saves her and transforms her into a nymph. On stormy days, Ondine is visible in the water vapors of the waterfall.
The Nideck waterfall is located in Bas-Rhin, 40 km from Strasbourg.
