Oncidium equitant Orchid (prpl) 2003 ,
acrylic colour on handmade thai mulberry paper(kada sa), 8 x 11 in., 20 x 28 cm.
A few years back I went through a phase with this type of orchid, Oncidium equitants.
I grow & breed orchids. I love them, to me they are living sculpture. Naturally I end up doing paintings on this subject. So there’s a few paintings based on this orchid subject…. some have sold & some really nice ones are still for sale.
Here I use a traditional handmade mulberry paper made in Thailand. The paper is a thick parchment type paper, strong yet pliable. The paper is made to this size to get the unique, uneven deckled edges which adds to the overall textural effect.
The close up picture is to get a better feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Then there is me holding up the painting for perspective.
Interested to have your idea painted in this style? Maybe a storyboard collage of flowers, or a corner from your garden? Contact me.
Please note that you can purchase in one order up to 3 paintings of same size or smaller to be included in the same 1 shipping fee. Packaging for my small paintings like this one is sealed in plastic sleeve, sealed in a padded hard plastic file case, and in an envelope.
About framing this painting.
When considering framing bear in mind to not cover up the deckled edges. This is one of the specialties of the painting, one of its charms. It is best displayed framed with a cut mat board around the painting so as not to cover the edges, thereby putting some space between the art and the glass and bringing depth to the framed art. It can also be framed simply with backing board and pressed with glass over the front without causing damage.
