Original artwork description:

I love the poem by Alfred Tennyson "The Flower" and have taken my title from the first line.

This piece is a new departure for me in that it's watercolour paper on canvas, so it's even more tactile and sculptural than my other pieces that are framed.

I've used slightly off white 300 gsm watercolour paper to make the three dimensional flowers, and I've attached them directly to a box canvas.
The whole piece has then been spray varnished with gloss acrylic varnish.

Because the watercolour paper has absorbed the varnish it has softened the edges of each flower, so the canvas is shiney but the flowers remain matt.

The result is a completely white textured relief design revealing individual flowers on closer inspection. And as with all my work the different shadows cast are as interesting a the piece itself!

The piece is signed on the side.
