In September 16 my husband and I spent three weeks driving across America from Chicago to Santa Monica on Route 66. It was the most amazing experience and provided a wealth of inspiration which I've decided to turn into a series of paintings called 'Moments on the Mother Road'.
I sort of started at the end of the road trip with this one because it's near a place called Amboy in California but I really wanted to start with that iconic road sign!
I used an acrylic modelling paste to create a textured background on the canvas which worked well in giving a sense of the dusty, arid scrubland and dry, cracked surface of the highway itself.
The canvas is deep edge gallery wrapped with the edges finished in indigo so it doesn't need to be framed.
As with all my paintings, it has been sprayed with satin varnish to protect it from dust and UV light damage.
