I paid a visit to the beautiful Charleston Farmhouse recently and, although this is not a painting of what I saw there, it is a response to the beautiful gardens and surrounding countryside, which were just full of the most beautiful plants, ranging widely in colour and texture. I have to say I raced home and lunged for my brushes at the end of the day because the whole atmosphere of that beautiful place was one of creativity and a feeling of "anything is possible". To have lived through those times with those people must have been thrilling and inspiring, even though they did have their fair share of scandal and intrigue!
