On location in Merida, Mexico, I was looking to capture the golden hour of sunset. The day had been hampered by heavy rain, and due to the poor drainage system, a number of roads had flooded and been closed. This led me off-track and I was picking my way through side streets when I heard a car approaching me. Looking up I could see this dusky vintage Volkswagen making its way down the street and I quickly tucked myself into the foliage at the side of the road.
The resulting Old Town Mexico photography print has a beautiful colour palette showcasing the traditional Caribbean vibes of the painted walls and doorways. The water on the tarmac worked to my advantage, reflecting the golden rays peeking through the clouds and balancing the image from the road to the sky.
I only had one chance to capture this moment, given the pace of the moving car, and it worked perfectly. You can see how if the car wasn’t in the frame the image would be incomplete, but with the vehicle the shot has greater depth, moving the eye from the green ivy to the car, then to the buildings and the sky beyond.
The printer is an Epson SC-P800 and the paper stock is Innova Metallic Gloss Paper, guaranteeing quality and detail in both light and dark areas. The mount is white.
Watermark will not appear on image.
