This kind of building, the shophouse is a classic structure found in South East Asia. The older style as in this painting are getting less and less. The old ones left in Singapore have mostly now been beautifully restored. The character comes out in the old windows and the seemingly random design from one shop house to the next. And they tend to look great as a painting. Here I am getting away from the illustrative look in favour of a more expressionist feel.
The close up pictures are to get a better feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Then there’s the work in progress.
