One summer I was walking through the streets of a Muslim city and saw this corner of an old mosque. The white wall glittered in the sun and there was not a soul around because of the midday heat. I wanted to convey on canvas this heat melting all around and bright light and strict lines of Islamic architecture.
It was not easy to stand under the scorching sun and paint a picture, but I still enjoyed the process a lot because I really liked this street in the old town.
My favorite material for painting is oil paints and that is what I decided to use for this work. This material opens up great opportunities for work - in order for the shadows to appear transparent and light, I applied the paint in a thinner layer and slightly corrected the color with glazes. And the areas where I wanted to show bright sunlight I painted very thickly, using mm paint to show its density and saturation.
