A disused bakery in France catches my attention. It is oddly retro, a hint of 1970s optimism perhaps. I am struck by the lettering, hopeful and colorful,and by the frosted glass that distorts the interior, ghostly shapes, muted tones. The French bakery and patisserie; rich, eggy custard tarts and rum soaked donuts, elegant pastry cups of strawberries and cream. Rows of baguettes, hot loaves dusted in flour. crunchy, waiting to be dipped in thick stews.. The work is on a 0.4 inch deep canvas and can therefore hang without the need for a frame. Texture has been added to give extra depth. A perfect gift, a good collection starter.
